You are all invited to participate in the BiCoQ & Astro seminar “The First Galaxies and Early Galaxy Formation with JWST“
Speaker: Professor Christopher Conselice (University of Manchester)
Abstract: I will present recent discoveries and analyses of distant galaxies and AGN (6.5 < z < 18) using deep JWST imaging and spectroscopy. I will show how the large sample we have collated of over 1000 objects can be used to uncover the physical processes driving galaxy formation and evolution through measurements of galaxy properties and environments. Beyond population statistics, this approach connects star formation and merger activity to the mass assembly of galaxies, while placing AGN and Little Red Dots, and their supermassive black holes, within this broader evolutionary framework. I will further discuss how these results provide new tests of galaxy formation models and of the underlying cosmological framework, including the nature of dark matter and dark energy.
